A BRITISH beautician accused of killing a woman after injecting her with buttock enhancements has been extradited to the US.
Donna Francis, a former hairdresser from Loughton, Essex, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and unauthorised practice of a profession.
Francis had fought against her extradition to the US, where she faces jail time, but the High Court ruled against her.
Kelly Mayhew, 34, died in 2015 after she had silicone injected into her buttocks. The procedure took place in the basement of a house in Queens, New York.
The 38-year-old, who is not a doctor, allegedly performed a butt enhancement procedure on Mayhew, who was from Maryland.
Acting Queens County district attorney John M Ryan said: “The defendant is alleged to have set up a temporary medical practice in the basement of a Far Rockaway home with a massage table and silicone gel purchased from Ebay. The victim in this case traveled from Maryland with her mother and $1,600 cash and the hope of returning home with the perfect figure. Sadly, she never returned home. She died as the defendant allegedly pumped a clear liquid substance into the woman’s backside, causing her to go into cardiac arrest. The defendant, who fought extradition, now faces prison time for these alleged egregious actions.”
Mayhew’s mother called emergency services after she found her daughter lying face up at the bottom of the stairs. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, Ryan said.
The medical examiner recorded Mayhew’s cause of death a result of systemic silicone emboli, which occurs when silicone enters the blood stream.
If convicted, Francis faces up to a year in a US jail. The extradition order states that she cannot be sentenced to more than a year in a US prison.
Francis, who is currently being held in Suffolk County Correction Facility, will next appear in court on September 27.
