BRITISH RESTAURANT diners have pushed aside Indian, Italian and Chinese cuisine in favour of those from the Middle East, Caribbean and specialist vegetarian establishments.
According to figures reported in he Guardian, fans of jerk chicken and ackee and saltfish have contributed in the rise of the number of Caribbean restaurants, with much of this attributed to new openings by the Turtle Bay chain.
Turtle Bay which has restaurants across the UK from Brixton, London to Cardiff, Wales and is arguably one of the biggest Caribbean Bar and Restaurants in the UK, boasts a menu of fine Caribbean cuisine such as the Five Alarm Chicken Curry, Mr Fabulous Jamaican Patties and Chilli Chocolate Brownies. Added to this are menus specifically for vegetarians and vegans as well a vast array of fruit punches and rum ensuring that every customer is catered to.
Graeme Smith, managing director of Alix Partners, which carried out a survey on favourite restaurants in the UK said: “The rapid growth of restaurants focused on certain cuisine types highlights how they can quickly find favour in response to the fast-changing tastes of British diners.
Turtle Bay, who also have as one of their main attractions the Summer Soundclash – a 4-day celebration of live music and rum, on tour to 7 cities across the country – the latest of which is set to take place in Chelmsford during 22nd-25th August, are one of the few licensed premises that offer entertainment such as live music which is proving popular among customers with a 22% increase where such attractions are evident.
