CELEBRATION: HMT Empire Windrush

AS THE UK marks the first annual Windrush day and celebrate the generation who helped shaped the nation, a series of events will be taking place up and down the country to pay homage to those who set sail upon the HMT Empire Windrush.

Below, we’ve listed some of the celebratory events taking place in the city of Birmingham - from church services to community fundays.

The Windrush Annual Church Service

Windrush 1948 Central presents an annual church service which will take place at the First Born Church in Birmingham on Sunday 23 June.

The service will include participation from the Royal Navy, British Army, RAF, West Midlands Police and NHS, along with a 70 member choir.

Public Service Day

Taking place Saturday 22 June, The Public Service Day will reflect and celebrate the contribution of the Windrush generation with historic and modern displays along with activities.

The free community event will include exhibitions from local government, civil service, West Midlands Travel plus more.

Windrush Annual Gala Dinner & Ball

Join the celebration with a special Dinner and Ball honouring the Windrush generation. There will be a Windrush parada alongside entertainment and a drinks reception and dinner.

The Windrush Family and Funday

The event will celebrate, educate and empower the youth, with a series of activities including face painting, football. Workshops plus more.

Windrush Elders Cruise Night

Enjoy an evening of good Caribbean food and entertainment with the Windrush Elders Cruise Night.

The event will include a cabaret show and musical entertainment, playing a mixture of ska, revival, calypso, reggae, motown, juazz and much more.

Admission is free with limited tickets for over 65’s. Elders and church groups welcome.
