SB.TV to launch news channel

NEW VENTURE: Jamal Edwards

SB.TV FOUNDER Jamal Edwards is set to launch his latest venture, BITE, a news channel for young people.

Edwards, who is more famously known as the mogul behind Smokey Barz Television (SBTV) - a leading online youth broadcaster, expressed a growing discontent with the current news format.

He said: “The news was created to engage and inform us but as young people we’ve shown and driven new ways to communicate and engage but has the news changed with us?”

The three-minute online promo for the new channel includes cameos of both popular celebrities and young members of the public voicing their opinion on present day coverage of current affairs.

Jamie Foxx commented that the news very often was being presented in accordance to whoever owned the medium and often with a right or left wing approach making it seem disingenuous.

Rita Ora added, “news needs to be broken down in a way that young people can understand, absorb and really embrace what’s going on”.

Other young people described general news as being artificial, inaccessible and very often presented with a negative portrayal of young people.

Speaking to ITV broadcast journalists, Julie Etchingham, Edwards concluded: “The generation is being overlooked”.

Committed to creating a current affairs revolution, BITE is "not a news channel as you know” it but something new and much needed to improve young people’s understanding of current affairs.
