Guyanese-British business owner, and activist, Gina Miller, declares she will take Boris Johnson to court over no-deal Brexit
AMID RUMOURS that potential Prime Minister Boris Johnson wishes to suspend parliament to deliver a no-deal Brexit, political activist Gina Miller has said she will launch a legal battle against Johnson if this takes place.
Her comments were made during an interview with Sky News political show, Ridge on Sunday.
“Parliamentary sovereignty is the jewel in the constitutional crown,” she said. “To close the doors of parliament – we feel, from the case law we’ve looked at – would be beyond the prime minister’s powers. It would be an abuse of his powers to close parliament to limit the voice of the representatives that we all elect.”
Taking to social media, Miller confirmed that she instructed her “winning legal team to issue a legal letter to Boris Johnson last Thursday if he were to prorogued parliament.”
What has Johnson done now?
Johnson is the favourite to succeed Theresa May as Prime Minister later this month and he has vowed it is imperative that Britain leaves the EU by the end of October - with or without a deal. Johnson has made it clear that once he enters No. 10, there is a possibility he will suspend parliament in order to drive through a no-deal Brexit, against the wishes of both Tory MPs and the wider electorate.

Last week, former Tory Prime Minister, Sir John Major, said he would have no problem seeking a judicial review to stop Johnson proroguing parliament.
Chancellor Phillip Hammond told treasury official he also plans to fight a no-deal Brexit.
In addition, legal firm, Mischon de Reya warned Johnson: “It would seriously undermine parliamentary sovereignty for you, as prime minister, to prorogue parliament to prevent it from considering whether to legislate to prevent a no-deal Brexit.
Who is Gina Miller?
Known for frequently campaigning for transparency in investment and pension funds, anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller quickly became a hated figure amongst Brexiteers after winning a landmark legal case against May's government.
The courts ruled in her favour, declaring the government had to legislate before they could invoke article 50. In a keynote speech Miller explained "it is time to put values before vanity”
Following Johnson’s controversial announcement that he will not rule out the possibility of proroguing parliament, Miller was quick to reassemble her previously successful legal team of top barristers.
She says her team is "absolutely ready to go” should Johnson carry out such an unlawful attempt to bypass parliament and enforced a no-deal Brexit.
